Netarhat – The Queen of Chhotanagpur’s Natural Splendor

Netarhat – The Queen of
Chhotanagpur’s Natural Splendor
🌿

On the occasion
of World Photography Day, the Jharkhand Photographic Association (JPA) organized
a memorable two-day photography trip (August 18–19) to the enchanting hill
station of Netarhat, fondly known
as the Queen of the Hills. Just 152 km
(about 3.5 hours drive) from Ranchi, Netarhat sits gracefully at an altitude of
1,128 meters in Latehar district, nestled amidst the dense forests of Sal, Kendu, Mahua, and Eucalyptus.

Famous for its
picturesque sunrises and sunsets,
Netarhat offers a serene retreat for nature lovers. Though our much-awaited
sunrise shoot was veiled by thick morning fog—leaving many disheartened—it
reminded us why so many travelers extend their stay here, hoping to catch that
magical moment the next day.

Amidst this, our
senior member Mr. Sanjay Bose
introduced us to a hidden gem, Mr. Manoj
Jaiswal
, who enthralled everyone with a spectacular session of Light Painting Photography. It was an
innovative and mesmerizing experience that added a whole new dimension to our
trip.

One of
Netarhat’s most popular spots is Mangolia
Sunset Point
, which carries not only breathtaking views but also a
tragic love story. Legend says an English girl, heartbroken after losing her
tribal shepherd lover, ended her life here—immortalizing her love forever.
Today, crowds gather to witness the celestial sunset, adding to Netarhat’s
charm as an eco-tourism hotspot.

The hill
station is rich in scenic treasures—rolling hills, pine forests, waterfalls,
and wildlife. A few highlights include:

·
Lodh Waterfall – the tallest in Jharkhand and 21st highest in India 🌊

·
Mahuadanr Wolf Sanctuary – India’s only sanctuary for Indian wolves 🐺

·
Naina Fall, Lower Ghaghari Waterfall, Sadani Waterfall 💦

·
Koel River Viewpoint 🌅

·
Betla National Park – one of India’s first Tiger Reserves 🐅

·
Historic forts of the Chero Kings 🏰

Adding to its
prestige, Netarhat Vidyalaya, a
residential school established in 1954, has produced some of India’s finest
scientists and technocrats.

The trip was
made even more special by the warm hospitality of JPA organizers, who ensured not just smooth travel and
luxurious stay, but also wholesome, homely meals served with love—reminiscent
of countryside traditions. Their dedication and courtesy truly deserve
heartfelt appreciation.

📸
Though we missed the sunrise, the fog itself created a surreal moment worth
capturing—a gentle reminder that sometimes nature has its own plans.

I
wholeheartedly recommend Netarhat
for every traveler’s bucket list—whether you are a photographer, a nature
enthusiast, or simply someone seeking peace amidst hills and forests.

🌿 A journey that captures not just landscapes, but
also the soul of nature.
🌿

With gratitude,

Ashok Karan
