Sunbird
While taking
morning stroll in my colony I noticed one very tiny, shiny bright and black in
color with long and curved bill, bird hopping from this tree to another quickly.
His restive nature of activities was very attractive and eye catching. So I
aimed on that tiny creature with my camera fitted with 400 mm lens and zoomed
in on him, as the bird was very restive couldn’t staying for a while on branches
for long so I kept shutter speed high of the camera with auto focus on and got
few beautiful shots.
As I came to
know about the Sunbird that they widely found in West Asia and Indian sub
continent and mostly live in thin jungle, bushes, including large urban areas,
Basically they are resident birds and don’t move large distant. The Sunbird primary
threat is degradation of jungles due to deforestation, if I see then the human
being are too facing the brunt of deforestation. Sunbirds male are look in
bright and shiny at the same time female birds are gray, green and drab in
look. They make their habitat or nest hanging from small trees or bushes and
can use their habitat up to seven times and for making their nest they use
every hour of the day collecting materials for nest making, which they make
very meticulously by delicately weaving grasses, lichen, cotton etc. Generally
they breed in wet season and also feed their chick’s insects, spiders, nectar
etc. The sunbird breed only once in a year and their babies lives in their nest
for ten days at least and after then they fly off.
The babies
of Sunbird during first five days after hatching are blind, naked, and helpless
and cannot maintain steady body temperature and after those five days their
eyes opened, developed thermoregulation and grow some feathers and at about ten
days they leave the nest. If anyone provides water to birds they are offering
them vital resource that they need to survive and thrive. Sunbirds require
water not only for drinking but also for maintaining their feather through
bathing. Sunbirds can be seen sucking nectar from the flowers by hovering at
them which they use to feed their chicks and themselves also. Its continuously
chirping sweet sound is very soothing like music in ears.
