Deepawali, also known as Diwali, is one of India’s most cherished festivals — a radiant celebration of the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Homes come alive with rows of glowing Diyas, colorful lights, and festive decorations as families unite to worship Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity and Lord Ganesha for wisdom.

The five-day festival holds deep cultural and spiritual meanings across regions — from Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana in the North, to Lord Krishna’s victory over Narakasura in the South. For Jains, it marks Lord Mahavira’s Nirvana; for Sikhs, the release of Guru Hargobind Ji from imprisonment. Over time, Deepawali has become a truly national celebration of unity, faith, and joy.

As I look back, the festival always fills me with nostalgic memories — building Gharonda (mud houses) with my siblings, crafting homemade candles with bamboo and cellophane, and cycling miles to buy firecrackers from small-town markets. Those memories continue to illuminate every Deepawali with childlike wonder.

This year too, the spirit of Deepawali shone brightly across India. In Ranchi, homes and streets glowed with vibrant lights, Diyas, and laughter. Many communities gathered in open grounds, celebrating together with harmony and joy — a beautiful reminder of the festival’s essence.
