Sindoor Khela 2025 – A Celebration of Colors, Tradition & Togetherness ✨🌸🔴
Each year, on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashami, thousands of Bengali women gather at the Durga Bari temple on Main Road, Ranchi, to celebrate Sindoor Khela—a vibrant ritual where married women apply sindoor (vermillion) to Maa Durga’s idol and then to each other’s foreheads and cheeks. Dressed in graceful white sarees with red borders, they turn the temple premises into a sea of joy, laughter, and devotion.

This ritual, rooted in Bengali Hindu tradition, is more than just a farewell to Goddess Durga as she returns to Mount Kailash. It is a powerful symbol of sisterhood, marital devotion, prosperity, and protection from evil. Married women pray for the well-being of their families, share sweets, dance to the beats of dhak, and celebrate the blessings of Maa Durga with unmatched enthusiasm.

Historically believed to have started nearly 400 years ago in Bengal and Bangladesh, Sindoor Khela has now grown beyond boundaries—celebrated not only in Eastern India but also wherever the Bengali community thrives across the globe. Over the years, it has transformed into a celebration of womanhood and collective joy, with even men and unmarried girls joining in some regions.

The sindoor itself carries deep significance—it symbolizes eternal love, commitment, prosperity, and the protective energy of Goddess Parvati. Applied during weddings as Sindoor Daan, it marks the sacred transition of a woman into married life, making it one of the most enduring cultural symbols in Hindu tradition.
