Paddy Plantation
As the rain
start the farmers become busy in their business that is paddy plantation in
their fields. Paddy is derived from Indonesian word Pady, which means rice
plant, generally paddy is planted twice in a year in the most of the places in
India which are known by Rabi and Kharif crop respectively. Rabi is depending
upon irrigation but the Kharif crop is depended on monsoon. So as the much
awaited monsoon arrived a bit late bringing cheers on the faces of the farmers
and they started paddy plantations everywhere. So far paddy transplant is
concern its seedlings are cultivated in some nurseries and after a period of 40
days when the seedling become ready they are transplanted in big fields. But in
some region it is directly sown in the fields. But directly sown seedlings
produce less yields than the planted seedlings which are needed utmost
attention and maintenances.
Paddy
cultivation start generally from May to August months of every year but it also
depends upon pattern of the monsoon and the time also varies in some of the
states. Paddy cultivation is done in small level of flooded fields Southern and
Eastern Asia. The most popular cultivation is wet rice farming in the far East
states where small piece of land require and the yields is sufficient enough to
feed the majority of the rural population.
The plant
has of many different variations but is short living for a period of 3 to 7
months depending upon varieties and climate of that place. Paddies are not
considered as water plants but for cultivatation sufficient level of water is
required. The traditional rice verities take about 160 to 200 days to mature
but the improved verities take about 110 to 130 days. As the rice paddy
requires enough water for its farming so it is sown during monsoon season.
Rice
planting is typically cultivated in India, in some distinct habitats such as
coastal lowlands, deep water areas, rain fed lowlands, rain fed uplands, irrigated
Khari and irrigated Rabi. Rice is an important food in India and West Bengal is
the largest producing state, beside Odisha,Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana,
Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Maharashtra and now recently Punjab and Harayana also
added in the list. So far largest rice producing country India comes 2nd
and China 1st in it.
