Love Locks
The story of
Love Locks is about 100 years old which ended on a tragic note. As the folklore
goes one local Schoolmistress Nada fell in love with a Serbian officer named
Relja and they were deeply committed to each other but Relja went to war in
Greece, where after the war over and collapsing of Serbian Front on October 06,
1915, Relja fell in love again with locale Corfu women. After learning this
Lady Nada got severe shock, she broke up with Relja and could never recover
from the devastating blow. Fell sick and later died as a result of her
unfortunate love.
Just to symbolize their unbreakable
love the young couples use different methods to make their love immortal the
young girls write her and her beloved name on the padlock, affix it on the
railing of the bridge which is called Love Bridge and use to spend some time at
the point where Nada and Relja use to spend their time. In India some lovers
use to tie red ribbons in some worshipping trees, religious temples, monuments.
In some patriarchal society the young
lovers face many hurdles and ire, so they leave all their feelings up to the
God. It happened especially when there is inter prefixed in it. So the
youngsters flew away due to their intense love and don’t have the courage to
face the ire of the society. As there are some cases of young couples were
being lynched and killed. In some of the Indian Cinema these love stories also pictures
in Mugle Azam, Ek Duje ke liye etc. So
taking inspirations from these films youngsters took drastic steps many times.
So far love is concerned it is always opposed by the societies since ancient times
for example Laila Maznu, Soni Mahipal, as per history they died due to their
love but never been separated.
So just to symbolize their unbreakable love
youngsters invented a unique way to
express their love by engraving their names on trees, old monuments, historical
buildings and surprisingly it is not confined in India only, but also in some of
the Western countries too. There is a bridge in Cologne’ss state in Germany,
where it is believed that if young couple with their sweetheart’s names and
date inscribed on a lovelock or Pad lock and they lock to the particular bridge
and throw the keys into the river to symbolize their unbreakable love. So
taking queue from this unique belief most of the young lovers are locking and
following this belief, causing the loads of the locks are taking its toll on
the bridge have compelled the local government not to affixing more locks to
save the bridge from collapsing. At some places the local authorities have
imposed some charges to fund raising projects or tourist attractions.
This love locks have proliferated an
increasing numbers of locations worldwide. At some places they are treated as
litter or vandalism and some places some cost have been imposed to remove the
locks and it become fund raising and tourist attractions.
