Thanks, Bikers
at Nelson Bay

During my stay
in Australia, my son took us on a memorable day trip to a serene and
picturesque coastal town—Nelson Bay, just an hour’s drive from his home.
The natural beauty of the place was so enchanting; I couldn’t help but capture
as much of it as I could through my lens.

As we cruised
along the highway, we encountered a group of bikers riding a variety of
well-maintained motorcycles. We exchanged friendly waves and smiles along the
way. One particular bike caught my eye—a rugged Quad motorbike, shining
in the sun with its rider geared up in full protective wear. The synergy
between man and machine was truly a sight to behold.

Later, near Newcastle,
we found many of these bikers taking a break in a park. I struck up a
conversation with one of them, who was proudly sipping a beer next to his
stunning Triumph motorcycle. We chatted about bikes, travel, and
life—and I learned his daughter was coming to visit from Sydney. With a
chuckle, he said he needed to be on his best behavior now, quickly finishing
his drink!

Newcastle and
its surrounding regions are home to a passionate biking community with numerous
motorcycle clubs, including:

  1. Ambassador of Christian Motorcycle Club

  2. AUS Motorcycles

  3. Australian Hayabusa Club

  4. Biker Hunter

  5. Bikers Anon

  6. Bikers Australia

  7. BMW Touring Club of NSW

  8. Bombala Motorcycle Association
…and many more, including the well-known Outlaw Motorcycle Groups (OMGs).

These clubs
welcome all motorcycle enthusiasts and often organize weekend road trips,
picnics, camping, and recreational activities.

Nelson Bay, part of the Port Stephens local government area in New
South Wales, is located approximately 60 km northeast of Newcastle and around
207 km from Sydney. With a population of just over 6,000 (as per the 2021
census), it remains a peaceful gem that draws visitors with its dolphin and
whale watching, diving, fishing, and other aquatic adventures.

The Tomaree
National Park
borders the eastern side of the bay, adding to its untouched
charm. The Nelson Head Lighthouse, built in 1875, stands proudly on the
northeast cape, offering panoramic views of the bay and beyond.

Nelson Bay also
has a rich history—Captain John Dalton, an early settler, built the
famous “Westward Ho” mansion in 1882, overlooking the area he once
supplied with fresh marine produce.

Getting around
is easy, thanks to Port Stephens Coaches, which offer regular services
to Newcastle, Raymond Terrace, Soldier Point, and even Sydney.

The climate
here is as diverse as its landscapes—humid in summer, cool and wet in winter,
and pleasantly dry in spring.

So dear
friends, if you ever find yourself in Australia, make sure Nelson Bay is
on your travel bucket list. It’s a destination that stays with you long after
you’ve left.
