Love Story Ended in Tragedy 💔✨
About a month and a half ago, I had the privilege of visiting Netarhat—fondly known as the Queen of Jharkhand—thanks to the Jharkhand Photography Association (JPA). They had organized a two-day, one-night photo workshop and photo walk, which saw the enthusiastic participation of photographers from across the state.

One of the highlights of this journey was our visit to Magnolia Point, a spot famed for its breathtaking sunset views and the tragic love story it carries in its name. Tourists flock here from far and wide to witness the enchanting play of sunrise and sunset, often extending their stay just to catch a glimpse of nature’s marvels.

During our visit, heavy rain almost washed away our hopes of experiencing the sunset. But patience rewarded us—just before dusk, the sky cleared, revealing a glowing canvas of golden rays and floating clouds. It felt as if the Vindhya Hills themselves had turned into a masterpiece.
The Romantic Legend 🌹
A granite plaque at Magnolia Point shares the poignant tale of a British girl named Magnolia.
- Magnolia, daughter of a British Governor of then Bihar and Odisha province during British Raj was Sir Edward Gait the Lieutenant Governor, who disapproved of her forbidden love affair with a loal shepard, which led to their tragic demise and naming of the scenic point in her honor.
- Magnolia fell deeply in love with Batuk, a local youth whose flute melodies captivated her heart.
- Angered by this relationship, her father killed Batuk.
- Heartbroken, Magnolia rode her horse off the cliff, ending her life.
Today, a statue and murals at the spot immortalize their story, adding to the soulful atmosphere of the viewpoint.

How to Reach 🚗
- Magnolia Point is about 10 km from Netarhat Bus Stand.
- Netarhat is 157 km (approx. 3 hrs 45 mins by road) from Ranchi, passing through scenic forests and hills.
