Sunrise at Islington Park 🌅✨
During my stay in Australia, I lived in Newcastle—about 158 km and a two-hour drive from Sydney. Being fond of early morning strolls, I often found myself walking through Islington Park, a serene green space adorned with tall trees and a gentle rivulet flowing through its heart. The peaceful surroundings, soft rustle of leaves, and reflections of trees in the calm water created a picture-perfect setting for anyone seeking tranquility.

As always, my faithful companion—my camera—was by my side. One fine morning, as dawn broke, I witnessed a mesmerizing sunrise at the park. The soft light painted the sky with hues of orange and pink, while patches of clouds formed a breathtaking canvas. The reflection of the sun and sky in the river added depth and emotion to the scene. Without wasting a moment, I adjusted my camera settings and began capturing the beauty unfolding before me. Among the many frames I shot that morning, one stood out—and that is what I’m delighted to share with you.
Located at 151 Maitland Road, Islington Park in Newcastle, New South Wales, is open 24 hours a day and offers a perfect vantage point for early risers. It’s a well-loved destination, especially for families and dog owners. The park features a playground, bike and scooter tracks, picnic tables, and BBQ facilities—making it ideal for recreation and relaxation alike.
Set on Throsby Creek, the park also has a fascinating history. During the 1930s Depression, it served as a worksite for canalization projects that provided employment to local workers. Over time, it evolved into one of Newcastle’s most cherished public spaces, connected via a scenic cycleway that links to the redeveloped Newcastle foreshore.
The suburb of Islington, established in the 1870s, lies just 3.4 km from the Newcastle CBD. Known for its charming mix of antique shops along Maitland Road and its proximity to the vibrant Beaumont Street restaurant precinct, Islington blends historical character with modern convenience.
So, if you ever find yourself in Newcastle, make sure to add Islington Park to your bucket list. Witnessing the sunrise here is not just about the view—it’s about embracing a moment of calm, beauty, and connection with nature.
