While on an assignment at a prestigious technical college in Ranchi, I came across a mesmerizing sight — the college’s tomb beautifully silhouetted against the setting sun. After three days of continuous rain, the clouds finally parted, allowing sunrays to pierce through, painting the sky in shades of red and orange. The scene was so captivating that I couldn’t resist capturing it with my Nikon D100 camera.

Silhouette moments like these often occur during the golden hour — either early morning or just after sunset — when the fading light creates a magical backdrop that lasts only for a few minutes. Being alert and ready is the key to capturing such fleeting beauty.

By backlighting the subject, the camera exposes for the background, leaving the subject in shadow.
